Wickeder Westfalenstahl has been producing steel aluminum composite strips for over 90 years. As early as 1920, a patent for aluminum iron composite strip was issued - the predecessor of FERAN steel aluminum composite metal. FERAN composite metal is a single or double sided aluminum laminated composite of steel strips, which combines the excellent formability and strength of steel with the physical and decorative properties of aluminum.
Nowadays, FERAN composite metals are used in multi-layer metal gaskets, insulation panels, engine supports, hard pipes and hose clamps, automobiles, air cooling equipment, power generation cooling devices, household appliances, kitchenware, and decoration. It is also used in the lighting and household appliance industry (reflector plates in microwave ovens) and in heaters (reflector plates in gas heaters).

Corrosion resistance
Due to the cathodic protection provided by the aluminum layer for steel, FERAN coated aluminum strips exhibit excellent corrosion resistance. This can reduce or slow down corrosion, especially in the cut edges of the strip.
The protective performance of this strip surface is particularly significant in salt spray corrosion tests: for example, a 50 micron aluminum layer can withstand at least 400 hours of corrosion testing. In fact, in this test, significant rust only appeared after more than 1000 hours. Moreover, high temperatures up to 600 ° C do not affect the appearance or moisture and corrosion resistance of FERAN, and do not cause discoloration or scaling.
Scale thermal resistance
FERAN can be easily cleaned: heating FERAN (or products made from FERAN) to temperatures exceeding 600 ° C produces a dark gray surface, which provides excellent scaling resistance at temperatures up to 850 ° C. This behavior is the result of metal bonding formed by the so-called composite aluminum and steel layers. This characteristic opens up many additional application areas for this material.
Decorative appearance: matte or rolled
FERAN can perform different surface treatments, and it also provides a decorative appearance for different application ranges. Its surface can be specifically used for painting, coating, or glazing. The same steps can be followed for processing ordinary aluminum
